Maybelline Cosmetics maybe too much?
After coming across this add in a Cosmo girl magazine... I just had to stop and think to myself... Isn't this a little too much? The extravagant, different shades of pink help make the mascara pop out to us. As i turned the page to look at this add, the first thing i noticed was the girl's eyelashes. I thought to myself "I want eyelashes like that" and i am pretty sure every girl who had read or reads these sort of magazines also want these eyeashes. Us, consumers want things that someone else has. In this case, we want the eyelashes because they are long and they are "in." Usually the reason why we even look through a magazine is because we want to learn "what is the new thing" or "what is in." The phrases that are used to catch our eyes are Very Voluptuous... which i am positive no one really knows what that means but it just sounds great! Therefore, this is an example of weasel words. Also, this advertisement also uses the phrase, "Weightless cream formula coats lashes cleanly, no clumps guaranteed." This is an example of majic ingredients!
Hi Leticiana!
ReplyDeleteI also think this Maybelline ad is a bit overwhelming. Just one look and wow! Pink overload!
Pink does symbolizes feminity though, so I guess using pink works with the advertisement's product.
The woman has outrageously long eyelashes. I keep wondering, if I bought the mascara, would it make my lashes as long as that woman's?
It is a good post you have here. I don't normally see these ads so thank you for broadening my knowledge of mascara ads.
Want to take a guess as to what's in that cream formula?
